On Thursday, December 5, 2024, the ceremony for laying the foundation stone for the rehabilitation work of the future Croix Rouge training center in Marseille took place.

This event was held in the presence of Philippe DA COSTA, President of the French Red Cross, Renaud MUSELIER, President of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region and Deputy President of Regions of France, Yann BUBIEN, Director General of the ARS Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, Jean-Luc CHAUVIN, President of the Aix-Marseille-Provence Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, owner and lessor of the site. This new establishment is located on rue Sainte-Victoire (Marseille 6th).

An Architectural Project combining functionality and heritage preservation.
The project integrates new safety and accessibility requirements, in harmony with the historical elements of the site. The Rougerie+Tangram agency has designed an optimized spatial organization: the buildings accommodate classrooms, administrative spaces and convivial spaces, distributed in such a way as to offer a fluid and functional circulation.

A Requalification of the Outdoor Spaces
In addition to the rehabilitation and restoration of the buildings, the project plans the revitalization of the outdoor spaces, in particular the central courtyard and the Africa garden. The Central courtyard is currently used as a parking area.
This interior courtyard will become a living space for students and staff with the creation of relaxation areas, benches and vegetation. Designed as a real island of freshness for both neighbors and biodiversity (birds, insects). A contrast with the tumult of Place Castellane and the city. The permeable soils and plantations will allow for the sustainable management of rainwater and improve the integration of the site into its urban environment.

With this rehabilitation, the French Croix Rouge and Rougerie+Tangram combine preservation and enhancement of built and landscape heritage to offer an inspiring and modern learning environment. The project highlights the architectural history of Marseille, while meeting the needs of excellent teaching.
