IDEAT’s latest architecture special is dedicated to sport: the place of sport in the city, the architecture of sports facilities, the past and future of Olympic venues.
The Marina Olympique du Roucas Blanc in Marseille is presented as the French showcase for sailing events during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, and now as a sports venue open to all sports enthusiasts and professionals alike.
The overall renovation of the Marina site and the construction of the Stade Nautique du Roucas-Blanc had to meet a twofold challenge: on the one hand, to meet Olympic requirements and, on the other, to meet the legacy of the Games, in order to create a formidable tool for the development of water sports for all.
All the facilities are organized in a radiating manner around the water, like a nautical arena. The project breaks down the program into autonomous units linked by overhanging roofs and walkways evoking maritime vocabulary, with overall functional coherence.
Anchored in the ground, yet opening out towards the horizon, the marina reconnects the city with the sea. It creates new perspectives that can be seen both from land to sea and from sea to land, and raises the Pôle France Voile like a prow visible from the open sea.
