This underwater living base is the first underwater house designed, built, and tested by Jacques Rougerie. It is designed to accommodate scientific and technical research programmes over long periods of time, between one and three months.
The variable ballast allowing anchoring in suspension at different depths, from 9 to 60 metres, without impact on the marine ecosystem, and its easy implementation are major innovations.
The oblong shape of its steel hull is pierced by large methacrylate domes, real balconies open to the underwater world and stabilised by a system of flexible ballasts in neoprene fabric. The design and ergonomics of the interior layout are specifically designed for life in an extreme environment.
